Crochet
The history of crochet is intertwined with our history as a civilization. It is suspected and we say suspected because this origin is still uncertain, that as early as 1500 years before Christ, there was a kind of weave, similar to what we know today as crochet, made with fingers. From its utilitarian beginnings where hunting and fishing nets were made we inherited it. Today, crochet is the heart of our artisanal work. It is our first and largest group, the ancestral heritage that moves communities around the world.
The Making
The tools for making crochet are few: yarn and a needle. But it is the knowledge, attention, and creativity involved that make the difference in this artisanal craft. Choosing the yarn, finish, and thickness is the initial step. The needle follows this choice, requiring a larger size depending on the thickness of the yarn. The chain stitch is the foundation of the work, which is always counted stitch by stitch in very precise mathematics.
